Membership Secretary: Kevin Billson,

Dear Colleague
The purpose of this letter is to tell you about the Retired Section of the Prison Governors' Association and to invite you to join our membership.
History of the RPGA
When the PGA was launched in 1987, the constitution provided for the setting up of a Retired Governors' Group. Seven years earlier in 1980, Arthur Williamson had started to publish the Retired Governors' Newsletter to provide a channel of communication between retired members. Since the founding of the RPGA, the newsletter has grown substantially and now has over 300 on the circulation list. An inaugural Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the RPGA took place at Newbold Revel in 1998, and a management committee was elected. The current AGM takes place in conjunction with the annual PGA Conference.
Membership
To fund the Retired Section of the PGA, we ask new members to pay an annual subscription by standing order of £13. The subscription entitles members to receive the Retired Governors’ Newsletter twice yearly delivered by post or email, whichever is your preference. We also retain a bank of members’ Email addresses maintained by Harry Brett, Communications Officer. The purpose of this list is to provide contact between newsletters on important issues such as job opportunities appropriate for retired members and news about other members. If you would like to join this mailing list, please Email harry-brett@hotmail.co.uk or advise that you’d like me to pass your contact details on to Harry. The RPGA also has its own website www.rpga.homestead.com which you may wish to visit to see the latest Newsletters as well as a list of current members and other useful information.
In addition, the RPGA exists to provide advice and assistance to members when required. The PGA may provide limited support to RPGA members should events come to light in a reasonable time after retirement. The member must have been a fully paid-up member of the PGA at the time the events took place to qualify.
RPGA Management Committee
We currently have a full Management Committee in place consisting of Graham Smith JP as Chair, Janet Thompson as Secretary and Graham Mumby-Croft as Treasurer. Terry Bone is the Trustee whilst the RPGA accounts are independently audited each year. The RPGA Newsletter is edited by Paul Laxton with Barbara Treen deputising, whilst Roger Outram maintains our website and specifically deals with correspondence from members. Harry Brett JP is our Communications Officer managing our email contact list.
Applications to Join
We hope you will consider retaining links with your colleagues through membership of the RPGA. To do so please complete the attached application form and standing order mandate. Hand the bottom half to your Bank and return the top half to the membership secretary. On receipt of the standing order, we will send you a copy of the most recent newsletter and a copy of the RPGA Constitution.
We are continually looking for new committee members (the role has a very low time commitment with meetings held online). If in addition to joining the RPGA you would also be interested in a role on our committee, please do not hesitate to contact one of us to discuss the matter.
Civil Service Pensioners’ Alliance
We maintain a contact with the Civil Service Pensioners Alliance, which we would encourage you to also join. This ensures that your pension is protected and that you have a say in other pensioner benefits and concerns (the CSPA meet regularly with Cabinet Office to be briefed on our pension administration). The CSPA also provide several other membership benefits such as initial legal and some financial advice and cheaper insurance through CSIS. More information on CSPA can be found at www.cspa.co.uk
I look forward to welcoming you to the RPGA, but if you have any questions before submitting your application, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Yours Sincerely
Kevin Billson
