Address to Conference 2019
"The Retired Prison Governors Association [RPGA] chairman Graham Smith addressed and thanked the PGA President Andrea Albutt and conference chairman for again facilitating our committee meeting and our AGM at their annual conference as it gives us the opportunity to meet potential members before they retire which is crucial to the future of our Association. He noted that some delegates looked like they were quite close to retirement and he noted that he has, after 40 years and 5 weeks in the Service, now been retired for 10 years and that retirement is to be enjoyed each and every day. Retirement,he stressed, is an opportunity in so many ways.He noted that some staff will not want any further contact with the Service after retirement but for those that do wish to keep up to date with ex colleagues and be informed the RPGA is there for you.

He emphasised the need for delegates to take information to potential RPGA members colleagues at their establishments to promote our role in supporting them in retirement and assure them they will be most welcome and at a small cost of £13 a year we believe good value for money.

He advised that this year we have joint information stands in the foyer attended to by RPGA committee members to promote the association and also the Civil Service Pensioners Alliance [CSPA] who we are now linked to via 2 of our committee members in both liaison and also active roles in their CSPA area groups in the north east and north west of England.
He stressed that pensions, benefits and care related issues will need our full attention in the future and our ability to influence policies is vital and clearly understood by the RPGA committee.

He thanked conference for their attention"
